Using basic things, such as vinegar and baking soda, is not a new thing, but yet some people have not heard of the benefits of these two ingredients most of us have in our grocery cupboards.
A good natural cleaning kit includes the following items:
- Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate): gritty scrubber, also reacts with acids like lemon and vinegar
- Borax: disinfects, whitens and deodorizes White vinegar -- disinfects and loosens dirt
- Lemon juice: disinfects, cuts through grease
- Olive oil: picks up dirt, polishes wood
- Castile soap: all-purpose foaming cleaner
- Washing soda (sodium carbonate): a caustic cleaner, stain remover and laundry supplement
- Tea Tree Oil, Eucalyptus Oil or Grapefruit (or citrus) seed extract: natural disinfectants
Get the mixture right to remove mould effectively
Vinegar and baking soda are two of the best natural cleaning liquids you can have in the house. Mix two parts baking soda with a one-to-one solution of vinegar and water to create a thick paste. Let this dry on the surface, then scrub off. This process can be repeated for really stubborn mould. After cleaning off the mould, use
Tea Tree Oil. Tea Tree Oil is a great oil for attacking mould, and is also a great natural antimicrobial. Mix a teaspoon of Tea Tree Oil with two cups of water, then spray on and let dry. Don’t rinse. Warning: the scent is strong, but will dissipate in a day or two.
Or you can try one of the following:
Eucalyptus oil: One tablespoon of eucalyptus oil, one tablespoon of methylated spirits and two cups of water mixed together and placed in a spray bottle; apply and leave to dry.
Grapefruit (or citrus) seed extract: Mix 20 drops of grapefruit seed extract with 2 cups of water; place in a spray bottle and apply. Leave to dry.
Dehumidifiers: these units will prevent the build up of mould by controlling your humidity levels.
